About the Author
Veronica Strang is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Auckland. An environmental anthropologist, she has written extensively on water, land and resource issues in Australia and the UK, and is the author of Uncommon Ground: cultural landscapes and environmental values (Berg 1997), and The Meaning of Water (Berg 2004).

What Anthropologists Do

Veronica did her homework with this book. She reaches out to all audiences, academic to laypeople, to explain the often glossed over complexity of the discilpline of Anthropology.
My only critique of the book is that it seems to miss the classic Boasian four-field approach. [...]
Veronica does a wonderful job to show the complexity and necessity for Anthropology and Anthropologists in this world today. We need to have more open dialogue with other nations in order to find common ground and mutual understanding in an ever-increasingly diverse and globalized world. She summarizes well how many people in varying parts of the world find a need for anthropology and the need to recognize the traditional values of people from their own cultural perspectives. Anthropology is the force behind a more concilliatory effort to combat stereotypes of the ethnographic Other, regardless of who's perspective it is we are talking about.
