About the Author
Brother Roger, the charismatic founder and leader of the Taizé community was attacked and killed whilst praying with more than 2,000 young people on 16th August 2005. His death came almost 65 years after he crossed the border from his native Switzerland into war-ravaged France. Settling in the tiny village of Taizé, he found himself called to establish a community in which reconciliation and peace would be made concrete day by day.

THE RULE OF TAIZE is an insight and a stimulation. Confected by the admired Brother Roger of Taize, this short volume is a guide for living a consecrated life among the members of his congregation of brothers. Through select values, the founder shares meditations regarding common life and service, rooted in the experience of the Spirit of Jesus of Nazareth. As is appropriate for a contemporary foundation, the RULE is different from the ancient models of Benedictine, Albertine, Augustinian, Franciscan rules, for example, but pliable enough to inspire religious and faithful to find new insights in committed following in the daily round of post-modern culture.
Possibly, the greatest value of the text is to inspire an individual to write her or his own guide for living the Gospel, for seeking unity in Triune Love, and for deeper service to all people in need. What are the values I must live to give greater honor to God, and to enter more compassionately into sharing of Life with others, especially those in need? Its one thing to know the value of mercy, for example, but it is quite a bit more to try to become God's mercy for others. This small volume is a wealth of information and insight as to how one might grow from these kernel thoughts.
